How to use

Mentax works best if it is used at the same time(s) each day.

Mentax is a topical antifungal. It works by killing sensitive fungi by interfering with the formation of the fungal cell membrane and weakening it.

Missed Dose

If you miss a dose of Mentax, use it as soon as possible. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular dosing schedule. Do not use 2 doses at once.

Storage

Store at room temperature between 41 and 86 degrees F (5-30 degrees C) away from light and moisture.

Do NOT use Mentax if:

  • you are allergic to any ingredient in Mentax

Mycelex-G (clotrimazole vaginal) is an antifungal medication. It prevents fungus from growing. Mycelex-G is used to treat vaginal candida (yeast) infections. Mycelex-G may also be used for purposes other than those listed in this medication guide.

How to use

Use clotrimazole vaginal exactly as directed by your doctor, or follow the directions that accompany the package. If you do not understand these instructions, ask your pharmacist, nurse, or doctor to explain them to you.
Wash your hands before and after using this medication.

Insert the tablet, suppository, or cream into the vagina using the applicator as directed.
Use this medication continuously for the prescribed amount of time, even during your menstrual period.

You can use a sanitary napkin to prevent the medication from staining your clothing but do not use a tampon.

If the infection does not clear up after you have finished one course of therapy, or if it appears to get worse, see your doctor. You may have another type of infection.

Avoid getting this medication in your eyes, nose, or mouth. Store clotrimazole vaginal at room temperature away from moisture and heat.

Store Mycelex-G vaginal at 77 degrees F (25 degrees C). Brief storage between 59 and 86 degrees F (15 and 30 degrees C) is permitted. Store away from heat, moisture, and light. Do not store in the bathroom. Keep Mycelex-G vaginal out of the reach of children and away from pets.

Warnings/Precautions

Do not use clotrimazole vaginal if you have ever had an allergic reaction to it.

If this is the first time that you have ever had symptoms of a vaginal yeast infection, consult your doctor before using this medication.

Do not use clotrimazole vaginal if you have a fever, abdominal pain, foul-smelling discharge, diabetes, HIV, or AIDS. Consult your doctor.

Do not use this medication without first talking to your doctor if you are pregnant. Do not use clotrimazole vaginal without first talking to your doctor if you are breast-feeding a baby. Do not use this medication if you are younger than 12 years of age.

Avoid wearing tight-fitting, synthetic clothing (e.g., panty hose) that does not allow air circulation. Wear loose-fitting clothing made of cotton and other natural fibers until the infection is healed.

Avoid sexual intercourse or use a condom to prevent the infection from spreading to your partner.

Avoid using other vaginal creams or douches at the same time as clotrimazole unless your doctor approves.

Drugs other than those listed here may also interact with clotrimazole vaginal. Talk to your doctor and pharmacist before taking any prescription or over the counter medicines.

Possible Side Effects

Stop using clotrimazole vaginal and seek emergency medical attention if you experience an allergic reaction (shortness of breath; closing of your throat; swelling of your lips, face, or tongue; or hives). Other, less serious side effects may be more likely to occur. These include burning, itching, irritation of the skin, and an increased need to urinate.

More Information

Take fluconazole oral suspension or tablets by mouth. Follow the directions on the prescription label. If taking the oral suspension, shake it well before using. You can take the oral suspension or tablets with or without food. Take your doses at regular intervals. Do not take your medicine more often than directed.   • dizziness
  • light-colored stools (bowel movements)

If you are taking this medicine for a long time you must visit your prescriber or health care professional for regular blood and liver function tests.

Alcohol can increase possible damage to your liver. Do not take alcoholic drinks while you take this medicine.

If you have a vaginal infection, do not have sex until you have finished your treatment. Your clothing may get soiled if you have a vaginal discharge. You can wear a sanitary napkin; do not use tampons. Wear freshly washed cotton, not synthetic, panties.

Fluconazole has been associated with birth defects when given at high doses early in a pregnancy. If you are pregnant or think you may be pregnant, tell you prescriber or health care professional immediately. Women who may become pregnant should use effective birth control while taking fluconazole.

KETOCONAZOLE (Nizoral®) is an antifungal type of antibiotic.   • an alcohol abuse problem
  • low stomach acid production (achlorhydria or hypochlorhydria)
  • liver disease
  • other chronic illness
  • an unusual or allergic reaction to ketoconazole, itraconazole, miconazole, other foods, dyes or preservatives
  • pregnant or trying to get pregnant
  • breast-feeding

How should I take this medicine?

Take ketoconazole tablets by mouth. Follow the directions on the prescription label. Take your doses at regular intervals. Ketoconazole works best if you take it with food. If you have a low production of stomach acid you may have to take your tablets dissolved in dilute hydrochloric acid. Drink this mixture through a straw to avoid contact with the teeth. You may get dizzy; until you know how ketoconazole affects you, do not drive, use machinery, or do anything that needs mental alertness.

Alcohol may make you more dizzy, feel sick and increase possible damage to your liver. Avoid alcoholic drinks while you are taking ketoconazole and for two days afterwards. Other medicines you get on prescription, or buy at the pharmacy may contain small amounts of alcohol.

Do not take terfenadine (Seldane®) or astemizole (Hismanal®) with ketoconazole. This combination of medicines can produce serious effects on your heart.

Ketoconazole may make your eyes more sensitive to light. Wear dark glasses in bright sun, or under any bright lights.

Where can I keep my medicine?
